Case Study - Dyframix page
Background
Dyframix is a duo from Yorkshire in the UK performing live music combining the didgeridoo (a musical instrument predominantly known for its Australian heritage (played by Nick Burman)), and trance style backing by multi-instrumentalist and DJ, Stef M.
Having spent most of their time touring and recording music, producing 4 albums to date (with a fifth currently being worked on), the band wanted to have a central reference point for information about their band.
Brief
To create a website promoting the band, to include information about up and coming performances, provide a platform for people to listen and watch the bands music. Using the band logo and themed throughout to provide a strong visual identity. An email contact facility was also needed to enable people to contact the client direct.
This commission was and is an on-going project. The aim was to establish an initial presence on the internet, then, over time develop the site especially with user interaction.
Planned expansion of the project would involve an ecommerce facility to sell both music and merchandise (including non-physical, downloadable material), a login facility for people to join/sign up, guestbook for people to leave comments etc.
Solution
The client already had an existing logo they were able to provide, along with a number of other items such as photos and a back catalogue of CD’s.
Using the predominant colours of the album cover artwork (red, orange, purple and green), as the basis for the colour theme of the site. After some experimentation the right colours were found that worked well together on a range of screens with different settings, and were ‘Websafe’.
‘Websafe’ refers to a range of colours that are recognised as industry standard and will render on almost any screen. Some older computers and other devices such as mobile phones are only able to render a certain number of colours. If a particular colour cannot be shown the device will invariably select the nearest ‘websafe’ colour and render that. The result can be somewhat alarming! See the page on colour and composition for more info.
At time of writing, a login script has been introduced allowing people to log in or sign up (later this will be used to help with newsletters, ecommerce etc.). A guestbook has also been added where members of the public can leave their comments.
Both login and guestbook have full admin back that can be accessed either by the client or by us, and both use a database to store relevant information.
A large part of the solution is in providing on going customer care. This means we take care of and attend to the behind the scenes side of the website (giving the client the opportunity to focus on what they do best!) For example the hosting, domain renewal, and adjustments or amendments to the site, for example changing some text, updating information, adding further content (as agreed).
Results
The website has created a presence on the internet and traffic has started to increase. Through having the contact form on the website an number of enquiries have been made leading to bookings.
Although not yet fully set up for ecommerce, the site has provided links to approved merchandisers who have received increased sales.
The site has provided a focal point for information used by the client as an augmented business card by mentioning the site on various forums, notice boards and blogs, including Facebook and You Tube.
